Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have classes for beginners?

Each Unipol Group Fitness class offers levels for beginners through to experts to ensure that all of our classes are available for everyone to enjoy.

I want to do PUMP but am scared of using weights- what should I do?

We have a PUMP INTRO class on the first two Saturdays of every month where the instructor will cover PUMP class technique for each exercise.  Highly recommended even if you have previous weights experience.

I have an injury- can I still take part in the Group Fitness classes?

Depending on the type of injury, yes.  Pump and Core include many non-impact exercises which will provide conditioning for the entire body.  For less damaging injuries, Cardio Core, Step and Martial can provide low-impact options.

In all cases always talk to the instructor prior to the class so that they are aware of this and can provide alternative exercises where necessary.

Are these classes just for girls?

No these classes are for everyone: male or female, young or old, big or small, short or tall.

Will PUMP make me look like Arnie?

No.  PUMP is a strength endurance workout which utilises light weights for high repetitions which means that you will utilise aerobic energy, increasing muscular endurance rather than size (which is attained by lifting high weights for low repetitions).  In PUMP you will therefore increase muscular tone and utilise energy however you will not “bulk up” or look like Arnie.

How often should I attend classes to maintain good health and fitness?

All of our classes target different facets of fitness therefore attendance to one different class per day of the week would ensure that your body adapts both physiologically and structurally.  You will also increase your co-ordination across a range of different movements– bonus!!

What if I have to leave a class early?

Walking through the middle of a class during the cooldown or stretching section is not fair to other participants, so if you must leave early we advise that you please position as close to the exit as possible and make sure that you do some stretching as soon as you can!

If you are leaving a PUMP class early, PLEASE walk around the participants when you go to put your weights away. Do not walk through the class as you risk injuring someone if you drop your weights on the way past.

“I went to STEP once, and could not do any of the moves. I am never going back…I’m not coordinated enough”.

Everyone struggles with STEP the first time they go. We encourage you to try STEP three or four times before you give up on it completely; you will become familiar with the moves and realise that it is a great, satisfying workout.  Do not be afraid to ask one of the instructors to go through the moves with you after the class as they are more than happy to help.
